[It’s another lovely day in this area of eternal winter. Today, if Yu ventures far enough into the thicket, he’ll see Zoe crouched over the ominous hope in the ground, holding what seems to be a box of matches.

Approach?]

[ Whoa.

Definitely.

A distant kind of concern brought him back here; he hasn't been able to shake the thought of that voice he kept hearing from deep within. But that concern becomes more immediate when he sees Zoe with... matches? ]

Zoe-san?

[ Naturally he's approaching, trying not to look TOO worried by whatever is going on here. ]

[requiemed]

[She looks back his way as he approaches, offering a nod of greeting before looking back towards the opening in the ground.]

You can just call me Zoe, you know. What's up?

[She says, as though nothing she's doing is noteworthy.]

[ Ah. ]

Zoe, then.

[ ... he'll just kind of. wander over here. ]

Is everything alright?

[requiemed]

I think so.

[She turns towards him again, thoughtful.]

Have you been here before? It's... weird.

[covenantal]

I was, earlier this week. ... to be honest, I find this place unsettling.

[ So "weird" is a good word. He'll glance at her. ]

Are you planning to do something?

[requiemed]

[She nods.]

I got these matches from the thing with all the rabbits yesterday. I'm wondering if we might be able to see if anyone is in there if we use them.

[ Lifts his brows. ]

Is there something special about them?

[requiemed]

[She shrugs.]

I figure even if they aren't, like, super bright godly matches, I could use one of those pieces of wood as a kind of torch.

[She gestures to the wood she moved aside to get a better view.]

If there is someone in there, don't we run the risk of hurting them?

[ A little concerned. He's not unwilling, but they need to think it through. ]

...You think we should test them out a little ways away?

week two, friday.

[requiemed]

[Hello, coat friend.

After the vision ceases and she goes to speak to Justice, she comes back inside the temple, shedding the coat that appeared when she went outside. That's where she finds Yu, and she glances his way, huge fur monstrosity in hand.]

...Hey.

[covenantal]

[ He's also stripped off his hideous coat, for the record. He looks worn. The toll this week took on Justice has in turn taken a toll on him.

But he'll smile for her, faintly. ]

Hey there. How are you doing?

[covenantal]

It can't hurt to be safe, [ he offers reasonably. ]

[requiemed]

Fair enough.

[And as such, she straightens up and looks around.]

You got a spot in mind?

[requiemed]

I think if anyone says they're fine right now, they're either lying or an asshole.

[So, it can be assumed that the answer is 'not great'.]

You?

[covenantal]

[ Yu will glance around. Stepping away from the hole, he'll tap a shoe on the dirt. ]

We can dig out a quick, shallow fire pit. That should work just fine.

[requiemed]

[She nods, starting to use a boot to dig into the snow as she pockets the matches for a moment.]

Yeah, that works as well as anything.

[covenantal]

[ Yeah. That smile of his -- it's sad, and understanding. ]

The same. [ He glances away, his eyes narrowing. ] ... I thought the murders would increase this week. But to go so far...

[ Four people. It's horrifying. ]

[requiemed]

I thought maybe after what happened to the last person who killed someone, people would think twice before...

[She lets the rest go unsaid, exhaling.]

But apparently it’s just the opposite.

[covenantal]

We'll all go home, right?

[ His voice is very, very flat. ]

Might as well take risks. I think ... that's what the killers are thinking.

[covenantal]

[ Yu will grab a piece of wood, helping her carve out a small spot. The frozen earth makes it tougher, but with the both of them working on it, they get there. ]

Think this is enough?

That doesn't make it okay in the meantime.

[Which she's sure he already knows, so she breathes out a sigh.]

It'd be nice if everyone could stop being assholes for the rest of this competition.

[She shrugs.]

I've never made a fire pit before, but... Probably.

[She fishes the matches back out of her pocket.]

WEEK TWO, SATURDAY.

[covenantal]

[ Unfortunately for the two of them, of course, with the end of the trial came the reinstatement of their curse. Once the trial was over, Yu found himself back in that hideous fucking coat.

If only that were the worst of their misfortunes, today.

He actually runs into her by accident; wandering through the temple, letting his feet take him where they will, he ends up passing the dance studio, pausing only when he realizes someone is in there. ]

Zoe?

[ He's got his curse-coat draped over an arm as he enters the room. That said, it'll get unceremoniously dumped on the floor near the door so he can ignore it.

Zoe, of course, gets a smile, a very crooked thing. ]
