[ The west wing is a hell of a different beast this week. From a winter wonderland to a desert city... talk about a 180 degree turn. Still, after the cold and the forced jackets last week, it's a truly welcome change of pace. Yu explores at his leisure, eventually making it far north enough to reach the ocean.
That's where Zoe will find him. His shoes are carefully tucked up on the sand, out of the reach of the waves, and he's standing in the surf, pants cuffed to the knee. You might think he'd be a little chill, actually, between the ocean breeze and the fact that he's in a simple v-neck t-shirt, but he seems at his ease.
By now the sun is setting, and watching its rays glow gold on the water is entrancing. It's a beautiful sight. He's so absorbed in it, and in his thoughts, that he doesn't hear Zoe coming. ]
[She's in shorts and a tank top as she visits the ocean today. It's a beautiful sight, and all the more beautiful because of the relief that came this morning. As she walks towards the water, she calls out to Yu, a smile on her face.]
No, not always, but it's not too warm outside of the summer months, either. Did you like spending time there?
[ Yu will walk a few steps further out into the surf -- only to jump back with a sharp, startled laugh when the ocean immediately does as the ocean to and hits him with a higher wave than he was expecting. For someone so normally quiet, it's an unusual bark of sound, brought about by sincere surprise. ]
[Either way, she can't help but give a small smile as she watches the wave hit him, even if she's close enough that it's not a moment before it hits her, too.]
Hope you weren't too attached to your clothes staying dry.
[ Yu is hopping back out of the surf, laughing and laughing. It's just ... a relief, to feel like he can laugh. Somehow Zoe helps him feel that way -- like there are things here worth smiling and laughing for. ]
Not really, [ he'll chuckle, shaking his head as he draws level with her again. ] That said, I'm not exactly planning to go swimming fully dressed. [ ... musing: ] I already did that once.
WEEK 3, MONDAY.

It's nice, isn't it?

[ He'll turn when she calls out, his face crinkling into a warm smile when he sees her. ]
Come join me.
[ The water's fine! ]

Have you ever been to the ocean before?
no subject
A few times. My friends and I would go, when it was warm enough. You?

[She nods.]
We don't live too far from the coast... My parents would rent a beach house during summer vacations sometimes.

[It's curious but casual; she'll leave it up to him if he wants to give more details.]
Either way, I bet you were freezing afterwards.

[ Zoe can put the rest together. ]

I'm not sure I could call it "cool." It's really something, alright. At least the bunnies were pretty cute.

[If she knows anything about him, that is.]
