[Without hesitation, she reaches back to put her hand in his. Then she’s hurrying through the door, laughing as she feels the sensation of rain against her skin. There’s a glance back to make sure she isn’t going to fast for him.]
[ They run together, side by side. Yu bursts out into startled laughter, too, as the rain quickly soaks into their clothes and skin. He squeezes her hand tighter. ]
[She does just that. Running without stopping, only pausing for a fraction of a second to give his hand a squeeze in turn, she races towards the temple. It’s only when they’ve finally made it that she lets go of his hand, a laugh still held inside her mouth.
She moves to shake off any excess water, which means her hair might be sending some droplets his way. Sorry, Yu.]
[ They both got pretty wet. Yu is still laughing as he shakes his head out like a dog. So they're both spraying each other with water droplets, that's fine. He shakes his hands out, droplets flinging off his fingertips. ]
I played basketball. [ solemnly. that's why he's fast. yep. ]
[In contrast to how he’s standing up, she takes a seat on the ground before she begins. It’s more comfortable this way, especially when she shifts so she’s cross legged, resting the guitar in her lap.
When she starts playing and singing along, the lyrics shift slightly to be less romantic. Still, the way she sings, the look on her face - both are impossibly tender and heartfelt.]
[ ... god. God, he's not expecting it at all. The first two lines immediately catch at him, his eyebrows leaping up behind the fringe of his hair, and it only gets ... worse? better? ... more affecting. More ... impossible, more surreal, from there.
How can this ... she -- for him?
With each and every word she sings, a small piece of him changes. His smile slips, to be gradually replaced with a certain kind of shock, a speechless awe. Yu slowly stands straight, watching her with his breath frozen in his chest. With the deliberate yet somehow utterly unconscious movement of someone entranced, he'll fold himself down onto the floor in front of her, utterly unable to look away.
And it feels so much lighter Now I met you And now, oh, you should know That I could never go on without you
The way she's looking at him threatens to break him, all of him, clean in half. Or ... no: maybe this aching is because she reached right into his chest to tug his beating heart right into her hands, instead. The softness of her voice, he knows, is her promise to keep it safe.
By the end of it Yu is lost for words, too overcome to speak. It's painfully obvious how emotional he is, his face actually flushed, his eyes overbright. He can hardly breathe around the welter of emotions storming beneath his ribcage. ]
Zoe, [ he'll finally whisper, hushed by sheer force of feeling.
How can this be for him? How can something so impossibly wonderful really be for him?
All at once a smile blooms across his face, broad and bright as the first beams of sunlight bursting above the horizon. ]
Whoever that song is for, [ he whispers again, his voice oh so faintly trembling, ] must be very blessed, to have someone as incredible as you care for them so much.
[If she noticed the way he was looking at her as she played along, she might be tempted to stop, As it is, though, even he way he sits down is lost on her. Her eyes are nearly closed as she goes on, even as she wears a smile that invites him to smile along with her. The way her fingers move against the guitar strings and the sound of her voice as she sings is intended to create a feeling of calm, of joy, of relief. It’s only after she hears him speak that she opens her eyes, blinking.
There’s surprise at his reaction, certainly, but it’s quickly replaced by a tender, honest smile that grows. She can hear in his voice how much this meant to him. That’s all she wanted from this moment. It feels like months ago that she realized he held a sorrow similar to hers, and since then - what more could she want than to ease that even slightly, the way he’s done for her?]
Well, that person might be sitting right across from me... And I might be pretty blessed, too.

My guitar's in the temple... You ready to run?

Always.
[ Something he says to her a lot, he thinks. ]
no subject
Whenever you're ready.
i can't believe i have to burn this post down
And then he'll hold out his hand for her to take. ]

It must have been a lot of basketball. [Anyways—] I left it in the dance studio. Let's go.
[And with that, she keeps walking.]

Yu will easily fall into place beside her, taking off his jacket to wring it out while they walk. ]
... maybe we should grab a towel or two on the way.

[She won't object to stopping, but it's not her first choice.]

Alright, alright. If I catch a cold, you'll be the one who has to explain it to Rise.

[She sees her guitar there as soon as she enters the room, and she strides forwards to pick it up with a smile.]
Whenever you're ready.
